Across the series he led in damage, kill participation, and KDA and across BLG's full five-BO5 lower bracket run, he was named series MVP in four of the five.
The latest individual accolade barely seemed to faze him. "This one was maybe the easiest of them," Knight said of his fifth finals MVP. "During the match, I could already feel it coming." Asked about the motivation that keeps him climbing year after year, his answer was just as economical:
I've played pro for a long time, I've played in a lot of matches, so my form stays pretty stable. If I keep going, it's probably because I want to win Worlds.
The title also rewrites individual milestones across the roster. Chen "Bin" Ze-bin claims his sixth domestic trophy, moving him past every other name in LPL history to become the league's all-time runner-up to Knight on the LPL championship list. Bin, who has now also qualified for a fifth consecutive MSI — a record for any Chinese player — was direct about what comes next. "We're the First Stand champions, and MSI is the second international title we want to take this year," he said after the match.
There was an emotional layer too. The grand final was played in Wuhan, and Bin, who hails from Hubei, lifted the trophy on home soil. "It really is exciting to lift this trophy in my hometown," he said.
Hubei is a huge esports province — people from Hubei are just good at games.
Speaking on the journey back from the lower bracket, jungler Peng "XUN" Li-xun did not hide the strain. "Coming through the lower bracket and going 5-1 was difficult," XUN said. "It was rewarding, but it was exhausting. The biggest change after yesterday was that today everyone played more aggressively, and the matchup was a familiar one, so we were comfortable swapping styles."
Head coach Yang "Daeny" Dae-in was equally candid about the doubts the run had created — and what it now means heading into Daejeon. "After our first playoff loss, I felt some fear too," he said. "That defeat became something of a warning for us. We changed a lot from that point on, and the players adapted to the rhythm quickly. Going to MSI, there is more excitement than anything — but also some apprehension. We faced G2 and BNK FearX at First Stand.
MSI might be one more chance to face top Korean teams before Worlds. I hope we put on a good performance."
For Park "Viper" Do-hyeon, that performance carries an extra weight. "My personal goal was always to make MSI and win it," he said. "This time, I'm going home. We have to win." A MSI victory in Daejeon would make him the only player ever to have won all three of Riot Games' current international tournaments in a career.
