
South Korean esports organization DRX is widening its playing field. Through its subsidiary WebsCreative, the group is launching a dedicated digital entertainment division, with two Korean drama projects already signed and a game publishing business.
DRX now wants to build on its fan base to grow beyond competition. The organization is banking on a simple observation, summed up by co-CEO Can Yang to Variety: its audience moves naturally from esports to games, from streaming to other content formats, without seeing those worlds as separate.
WebsCreative, the driving force behind the project
At the heart of the strategy is WebsCreative, a DRX subsidiary since 2022. Originally a marketing agency serving the film industry and streaming platforms, the company has gradually moved up the value chain: game publishing first, then development, investment and original content production. DRX plans to inject fresh capital to expand its teams and strengthen its ability to finance and deliver projects.
Two K-dramas already cast
The clearest sign of that ambition comes down to two Korean series whose titles have yet to be revealed. Both casts are locked in, featuring actors who are household names in Korea, and the broadcasters involved are among those behind the genre's biggest hits.
The first project is already shooting, with WebsCreative overseeing the entire chain from filming through editing and taking full responsibility for delivery to the broadcaster. The second stems from an early-stage investment in the intellectual property and is set for a major Korean broadcaster as well as an international streaming platform; it will be co-produced alongside the original rights holder.
The organization is not looking to compete on volume with Korea's large production houses, but to position itself as a complementary partner, bringing its understanding of digital audiences, marketing and fandom dynamics.
Longer term, the stated goal is to develop and own its own IP rather than remain confined to an investor role. The current co-productions serve as a launchpad.
