Riot is turning back the clock. Season 3 will be entirely dedicated to celebrating League's past and present, and the centerpiece is League Classic — arriving with the next patch.
What is League Classic?
League Classic is Riot's take on the best moments from the game's early years, not a 1:1 patch restoration. On the menu:
- The original Summoner's Rift
- The launch roster of 60 champions
- Old items, old-school runes and masteries
- The mechanics of the era
More champions will be added over time, but don't expect the full modern roster — Classic will never include every champion released to date.

Runes and masteries but faster
Just like in the old days, you'll unlock runes and masteries by playing Classic games. The difference? Progression is much faster than it used to be, and everyone gets access to default pages from day one.
Modern comfort, vintage gameplay
Riot isn't throwing out fifteen years of quality-of-life work. Classic ships with modern matchmaking, upgraded server infrastructure, performance improvements, modern pings, spell buffering, and even WASD controls.
On balance: Classic gets regular updates, but with its own philosophy — preserving what makes it unique rather than chasing modern meta standards.
The Council: you decide Classic's future
The most intriguing announcement is The Council, a community voting system that will let players choose where Classic goes next. Riot builds it, you steer it.
ARAM: Mayhem Classic-ish
To celebrate the launch, a limited-time mode with its own queue drops alongside Classic: ARAM: Mayhem Classic-ish. You'll fight on a Classic-inspired map with Classic items and Classic-themed Augments — restricted to the 60 Classic champions, but in their modern versions.
