In NA, EUW, EUE, Brazil, LAN and Turkey, all Master, Grandmaster and Challenger players will be reset to Master 0 LP at the start of Season 2 (with patch 26.9, on April 29, 2026) — a reset of both the rank and the MMR.
An out-of-the-ordinary reset
In the game's current model, there is normally no reset between the seasons of a single year. Only the transition to the new year in January triggers a ranked reset.
Season 1 ends on April 28 at midnight and Season 2 picks up the very next day. Ranks are usually simply carried over, so this Master+ hard reset in the middle of the year is an exceptional event, which Riot acknowledges as such.
Why?
The matchmaking changes introduced earlier this year (autofill, duos in high elo, rank satisfaction) caused highly inconsistent LP gains, to the point where the rank a player reached depended more on when they played than on their actual skill level. Player surveys confirmed a preference for ladder integrity, even if it meant temporarily sacrificing matchmaking quality.
As a result, expect unbalanced games for several weeks, similar to what happens at the start of a season.
Changes to LP gains:
- Base raised to ±30 LP (range from +35/-25 to +25/-35)
- Challenger threshold raised to 800 LP, Grandmaster to 400 LP in the affected regions
- Additional tiers will arrive in 2027
Rewards
Season 3 will act as a catch-up window for Season 2 rewards. Reaching a higher rank in S3 will also count for S2 (e.g. Master in S2 + Grandmaster in S3 = GM rewards for both).
Other regions such as Korea and China are not affected, and Riot states that this type of mid-year reset will remain exceptional.
