Riot Games is rolling out a beta of a native integration between its Riot accounts and Discord, allowing League of Legends players in the Americas to invite their Discord friends directly into a game without ever leaving the client.
Less Waiting, More Playing
That's the promise displayed on Riot's official page. Linking your Riot account to your Discord account unlocks three key features:
- Invite your Discord friends directly into your lobby, no alt-tabbing required
- Copy a lobby link to share on a Discord server or anywhere else
- See which of your friends are playing a Riot title so you can jump in faster

No Built-In Chat, and That's Intentional
A detail that may come as a surprise: Riot has no plans to integrate Discord chat into its client. No Discord voice or text messaging directly inside League — the integration strictly sticks to managing invites and presence.
On the user side, invites sent by a friend arrive as a Discord message, with live updates of the party's status. Clicking "Join" launches the game faster than a recall to the fountain. If the party has already joined a game or disbanded, the link expires and turns into a simple "Launch Game" button.
The American Rollout
The beta starts now on League of Legends, but only for players in the United States, Canada, and Brazil. The publisher specifies that a rollout to other eligible regions will follow "in the near future," with no precise timeline for now.
What Data Is Shared With Discord?
This is one of the most sensitive questions raised by the integration, and Riot tackles it head-on in its FAQ. The publisher states that it only transmits the information strictly necessary for the feature to work: Riot ID, Discord display name and account ID, current game, party size, status, and the score of an ongoing match. Broadly speaking, the same information already visible on a friend's profile in the client's social panel. No other personal information would be shared.
