The list of participating nations for the League of Legends event at the 2026 Asian Games has now been announced by the Olympic Council of Asia.
According to the visual released for the “2026 Asian Games Esports League of Legends Event”, two teams have received direct qualification based on the previous Asian Games results: Republic of Korea, gold medallist, and Chinese Taipei, silver medallist.
Alongside them, fourteen teams appear on the list of “Preliminary Nominated Athletes”: Hong Kong, China; India; Indonesia; Kazakhstan; Kyrgyzstan; Laos; Malaysia; Mongolia; Oman; Pakistan; Saudi Arabia; Sri Lanka; United Arab Emirates; and Vietnam.

One name, however, stands out by its absence: China.
The absence is particularly notable given China’s status in competitive League of Legends. The country remains one of the strongest regions in the world, with the LPL regularly producing elite international contenders. A full-strength Chinese roster would likely be considered one of the favourites for gold, alongside South Korea.
At this stage, no official explanation has been given for China’s absence from the announced list. It is therefore important not to present this as a confirmed withdrawal, nor to attribute it to a specific cause without evidence. The situation could still be linked to an ongoing selection process, administrative timing, qualification procedures, scheduling questions, or internal decisions from the relevant sporting authorities.
