MKOI Elyoya and Supa on their EWC opener: "We didn't make things easy for them"
Movistar KOI opened their EWC with a BO1 loss to BLG, taking the reigning First Stand winners deep before falling in the teamfights. RFT.GG caught up with jungler Javier "Elyoya" Prades and bot laner David "Supa" García after the game to talk about the mid-game swing, facing Viper, a meta that suits them, and GAM up next.

How are you feeling after the series?
Supa: You feel sad, obviously, after losing — you think you could do more. But in the end I'm focusing on the next match. You can't be sad, you can't have bad emotions, so I focus on what I can do better for the next game.
Elyoya: Yeah, I agree with his thoughts. It's obviously frustrating, and I know we have a lot to learn from this game, but right now we're just focused on the next one.

You were very well into the game, especially in the early game. What happened in the mid game? I felt like you were underplaying a bit — not playing as much as you could have in teamfights. Do you agree, or was it something else?
Elyoya: I think so. In teamfights they just played the fights better than us, so in the end the game came down to details. There are some fights where we didn't take the advantage we had with the space, and some others where we could have engaged faster.
Supa: Yeah, they have more experience, and — I wouldn't call it lucky, but they got the Drakes, which kind of puts you on a timer. It was pretty fun to play, but they have the experience side, they teamfight way more than us over the year.
Supa, you especially played against Viper, the one you look up to the most. How is it playing against him?
Supa: It's a bit weird, because he was playing mages, and I think he's probably one of the best mage players — but he has a bit of an advantage, because mages right now take over the early game. You have no chance until one item.

But it was something special, because no one in Europe puts the same pressure in lane.
So it was really fun to see how he reacts to everything, because it's way different from what I play in Europe. I'm used to different styles, but it was funny.
One thing I felt watching this MSI is that the meta suits you very well — it's all early skirmishes, jungle-support playing a lot with one another. Do you feel this meta is just very good for you?
Elyoya: For sure. A meta that involves jungle-support and revolves around skirmishes is what we want. So it fits us, and it's something we've been working on.
Supa: The meta right now is pretty fun. ADCs complain, but you get a lot of 1v1 ego checks, and you get a lot of teamfighting too — you just push the wave, go to the teamfight. It's actually really fun. The whole game you are perma-fighting.

You just played the MSI finalist to a close game, are you proud of what you showed today — or do you think you could have done better?
Elyoya: No, I'm not proud of how we played, because in the end what matters is that we didn't win.
Still, we didn't make things easy for them, and that's something to consider.
They took to a game five against what is the best team in the world. You could even argue it's them, because considering First Stand and everything, they've had a really good performance throughout the whole year. But in the end, what matters is whether you win or not. And today we didn't.
Supa: I'm proud that we played a game where we weren't scared or underperforming, so it's really good to learn from. But in terms of level, we can push ourselves to do more and more. This is a good start to work from and keep improving.

You play GAM next. What do you think of that team? They were ahead in the early game against T1 too. Have you been able to see anything about them?
Elyoya: Their jungler plays quite aggressive, and when they had the winning lanes they abused T1 quite well. But T1 as a whole — from what I saw — I think they had better fundamentals, so they ended up taking the lead back through numbers-advantage plays or some mechanical outplays. So for sure, GAM is a team that has its flaws.
Supa: GAM is a team we're expecting, because in their league too they're super aggressive, they fight everything, and they end up with super early games. So I'm expecting them to go crazy from level one — you need to be ready from the beginning.
